On the Saturday before Easter, Salem Church invites all of its Sunday School children, parents and grandparents to an afternoon filled with family fun: stories, crafts, games, lunch and an Easter egg hunt.

Advent is a time to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ. Yet, in our modern day culture the season is portrayed as a time for buying and getting. As a way to remind us of and return us to the spiritual meaning of Christmas, each year during Advent (end of November or in early December) we hold an intergenerational event. There we explore the meaning of the birth of Jesus, the reason for the season and provide opportunities for people to create practices and rituals within their home which will help them prepare for the coming of Jesus and how they can utilize this season to remember those who have been forgotten and left out.

Every year on the second Sunday of October at 9:00 AM, Salem Church blesses its animals. Everyone young and old is invited to bring their pet(s) (dogs and other large animals on a leash (ie. goats, horses, etc.) cats and other animals in carriers. If you cannot bring your pet, you are welcome to bring a picture of your pet or if you don't have a pet we invite you to bring a treasured stuffed animal. There is a coffee hour (for humans and animals) immediately following the service. Even those who don't have animals find they really enjoy this outdoor service held on the side lawn of the church (or in Fellowship Hall if it rains).
Each year at the beginning of September, prior to the first day of school, Salem church recognizes its Sunday School teachers and children. During the 9:00 service of worship, children from our Sunday School who are being promoted into the next grade are recognized, their teachers are commissioned, Bibles are given to those going into fourth grade and we bless the book bags/backpacks and lunch boxes/bags of the children in preparation for the first day of school.
